What Is Net Metering?

Net metering is a billing arrangement that allows individuals or businesses with renewable energy systems, such as solar panels or wind turbines, to connect to the grid and receive credit for any excess electricity they generate and feed back into the grid.

Under a net metering arrangement, a bidirectional meter is installed that can measure both the electricity consumed from the grid and the surplus electricity exported to the grid.
